Not to be confused with the hit British “Carry On…” film series, this early Canadian film was shot in southern Ontario – reportedly without a script – by cartoon master Bruce Bairnsfather, telling the story of four friends who join the army to fight in WWI. Promoted as the first Canadian film epic, this war drama is superbly shot, and the battlefield scenes are especially impressive, considering the film cost $500,000 to make – the most expensive film in the history of Canadian silent cinema.
