The film festival that's held entirely in a movie theater!

Cinephiles met once again in Massilion Ohio to enjoy projected films in the Lincoln Theater.

A murder trial reveals the drama beneath the surface of four families including suicide, jealousy, and greed. Variety found this little gem "A fine story, absorbingly worked out, with fascinating character studies and a touch of satire."

Paths to Paradise (1925) Comedy
Starring: Betty Compson, Raymond Griffith, Edgar Kennedy.
Once a forgotten silent comedy with a forgotten comic, Raymond Griffith.
It's a story of a jewel heist, dumb cops and a touch of jealousy that made it worth watching again.

The Rogues' Tavern (1936)

New this year had our first ever morning mixer to get acquainted on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 am.
We supplied the doughnuts with coffee and juice at the theater to have a chance to greet new & returning cinephiles.

Gordon Berkow memories...
A mix of silent rarities were shown to honor the memory of Gordon.
He will be missed. Gordon was one of the good guys, he passed away just days before the Cinesation.

Murder on the Paramount back lot!
A matinee idol is murdered at the preview of his latest film.
Problems arise when the suspect is also killed. A host of silent screen favorites show up in nostalgic parts throught this movie. It both entertains and gives an excellent glimpse of the workings of a film studio.

La Cucaracha (1934) IB The first color short
The first live-action featurette to be filmed in the improved 3-strip Technicolor process. It showed off the technological advancement by concentrating on the deep blues, vibrant yellows and vivid purples that were impossible to accurately convey in the old 2-color process.

This "old dark house" movie has a group of wealthy people staying at a mansion. As legend has it, the mansion's "blue room" is cursed.
The three suitors of Irene (Gloria Stuart) wager that each can survive a night in the blue room. The Secret of the Blue Room was one of Universal's cheapest releases of 1933. The set of the mansion is from James Whale's "The Old Dark House" (1932), adding to the production a value
Universal's Poverty Row competitors couldn't match.

This was going to be this years archive surprise from the Library of Congress, but, it's too good not to advertise!
We will be shownig a
new print straight from the original camera negative .
Story: Marie Prevost is a model who uses the fancy clothes that she's paid to wear to get into high society. Then love, aka Harrison Ford, gets involved. Do the clothes make the woman a lady?

Based on a novel by Georges Simenon, this superb piece of "continental noir" Charles Laughton is Parisian police inspector Maigret, whose investigation of a rich woman's murder leads him into a battle of wills with a psychotic killer-for-hire and a showdown at the title landmark.

Irvin Willat's follow up to Behind the Door, not a sequel.
A strong, intriguing story that includes an Illicit affair and retribution.
Variety declared, "Full of action from start to finish, this production has all the ingredi­ents of a success and is bound to interest and please any audience anywhere.There is more action in the first reel than is usually found in the average five-reeler."

It's a bit of a sex comedy of mistaken identity. Given the generally hard edge of its director, finding a Collins' comedy is exciting and seeing a "found"
Viola Dana film was a pleasure. Voted one of the weekends best!

Lots of innuendo and blue gags ensue when the sultan and his harem arrive. The little King is looking for action and cannot find it.

Stars: Richard Arlen, Fay Wray
It's post-Civil War Texas and the local cattlemen cannot get their livestock to market. Richard Arlen, a Yankee war hero, is sent from Washington to try and solve all the problems. Fay Wray does her best to hate anything & anybody that comes from the North.
Voted "a surprisingly good "A" picture that holds up very well."

Oh, What a Night! (1926) Comedy
Stars: Raymond McKee, Edna Murphy, Ned Sparks.

A playwright is bedeviled by two fat men, accused of stealing a watch, meets a beautiful stranger, deals with a drunken burglar, and recovers stolen pearls while rushing to finish his latest play.
This is an orphaned picture that was saved by the Library Of Congress,
and shown that weekend because of Ned Sparks.
Voted the biggest suprise of the show because it was good and funny.

Scandal Sheet (1931) Produced by Paramount Pictures
Stars: George Bancroft, Clive Brook, Kay Francis, Lucien Littlefield,
Regis Toomey.
George plays a ruthless editor of a scandal oriented newspaper. He uses his position to go after the man his wife has been seeing, with surprising results.
This movie is supposed to have been inspired by the life of a real tabloid editor!

La Boheme was Lillian's first film for MGM and the first time she worked for a major Hollywood studio. But it was a Lillian Gish picture. She instigated the script, chose the director and most of the cast (heavily based on seeing
The Big Parade), picked the cinematographer, her old friend from her Griffith days Hendrick Sartov, who had invented a soft focus lens he called the
"Lillian Gish lens"

Photoplay, in 1924, offered this short but positive review.
"Annette Kellerman, the girl that made the one-piece bathing suit famous -- comes back to her old time form. She is wonderful in the water, but when she attempts the emotional scenes devised by an ambitious scenario writer -- well, you know what Sherman said about war. However, this romance of the South Seas gives her an opportunity to perform numerous aquatic feats, which she does with her accustomed grace and skill."
